Untold Stories - Prologue EP [SMD078]

The 78th release on Suffused Music features the debut of a new and exciting artist by the name of Untold Stories. Hailing from Argentina with years of studio experience already under his belt Untold Stories presents his debut EP entitled 'Prologue' which includes five brand new original productions. Suffused Music has always been a label with their ear to the ground. The Lithuanian imprint has launched and nurtured the careers of several electronic music hopefuls and Untold Stories may hold the most promise yet.

The lead track on the EP 'Broken Tusk' starts things off with a deep and enchanting vibe that sets an amazing mood for the remainder of the EP. Well carved lead tones add a colourful flair while the warm undulating foundation locks down an amazing groove. A subtle atmospheric overlay builds a delicate tension throughout and heightens the senses for an even more stimulating second half. Already played by Hernan Cattaneo on his Resident podcast 'Broken Tusk' looks to be one of the most intriguing records as 2015 begins. The second selection 'Dark Shore' carries an even deeper, darker presence with big growling bass swells and an ominous complement of shifty melodic themes. The long spaced out interlude may be the highlight though and sets up an even smoother second half conclusion. On 'Shornhelm' Untold Stories shows his studio versatility with a slightly tougher and decidedly funkier affair. Backed by another rousing and immaculately carved groove this is one production with a real nose for the dance floor. Raspy electronic hooks highlight the records third act and are sure to be ingrained in your memory long after the night is over. This leads perfectly into the big and bold 'Skyshard' which is perhaps the most traditional sounding progressive track on the EP. A Natious style bass line is sure to delight old school Sasha fans and it's broken beat interlude proves to be the ultimate centrepiece. As the breakbeats gets washed away you're left with one of the most emotional soundscape's of Untold Stories young career. Heartfelt chord changes lead the charge as act 3 begins and should provide a goosebump worthy finish. The EP is capped off with 'Wayshire' which fittingly enough brings the energy down a touch with a deep yet funky approach. Lead by a crunchy rhythmic sequence and a granular decay it's an incredibly stimulating piece. Another sizable break shifts the mood into spaced out territory before a smooth re-entry charges up the funky hooks for an exhilarating conclusion. It rounds out what are five excellent productions from this exciting new moniker, already creating a buzz in the electronic music underground Untold Stories looks to be one of Argentina's hottest new names for 2015. – Release Promo

SummerMarian - Sensations EP incl. Stephen J. Kroos, Sean McClellan, Audio Noir, Federico Monachesi, Ri Za [SMD077]

The 77th release on Suffused Music features the debut of SummerMarian to the label. The Argentinean producer began his career in January of 2014 with a string of releases on Deepsessions Recordings and continue to release on other labels too. SummerMarian's debut EP for Suffused Music is entitled 'Sensations' and it comes with two brand new original productions alongside remixes from Audio Noir, Federico Monachesi, Ri Za, Stephen J. Kroos and Sean McClellan.

The EP begins with the smooth progressive grooves of 'Adventure'. Rooted by tough beats, detailed drum work and catchy vocal snips it's hypnotic energy is undeniable. A more twisted second half delivers even cooler lines and drives the track to a strong finish. The first interpretation of 'Adventure' is provided by Sean McClellan who is making his fifth appearance on Suffused Music. The US producer has transformed 'Adventure' into a funky, tech house bomb with well carved grooves, liquid-like rhythms and a wicked complement of trippy electronics. The second and final interpretation of 'Adventure' is provided by Stephen J. Kroos who is making his first appearance on Suffused music. The Dutch producer has been featured on imprints such as Anjunadeep, Manual Music and Replug Records. For his 'Adventure' interpretation Stephen has stripped the track right down and delivered a funky techno workout that's filled with big bold stabs, flowing harmonies and soulful vocal elements.

The companion piece 'Volcano' finds SummerMarian with a deeper, more introspective construction. It's subtle melodic build, classic lines and quirky conclusion are a real delight and perfect for those emotional dance floor moments. The first interpretation of 'Volcano' is provided by Audio Noir who is returning for his second appearance on Suffused Music. The Australian producer last appeared on the label in December of 2014 and also has a remix forthcoming on Perfecto Flouro. For his 'Volcano' Rekonstruction Audio Noir has reworked the elements into a progressive trance gem. Bubbly textures, emotional chords changes and a gorgeous female vocal sample should make for some amazing goosebump moments. The second interpretation of 'Volcano is provided by Federico Monachesi who is making his first appearance on Suffused Music. The Argentinean producer is coming off the best year of his career and for his 'Volcano' interpretation Federico has reworked the track into a mid tempo breakbeat epic. The Argentine's heavy beats, crisp drums and detailed electronics carve out a wicked groove while layers of hypnotic textures take you further into dreamland. The third and final interpretation of 'Volcano is provided by Ri Za who is making his second appearance on Suffused Music. The floor friendly sound which Ri Za regularly showcases is on full display here once again. The Slovakian's gargantuan bass stabs have been shaped into a momentous groove and a complement of fresh electronic hooks and phasing synths keep the energy flowing throughout! It rounds out another top notch release on Suffused Music in fine style! - Release Promo

Progress Inn - Rituals EP incl. Rick Pier O'Neil, Vid Marjanovic, Following Light [SMD076]

Returning to Suffused Music after a successful remix of Advent's Rising in October 2013, Serbian born duo, Progress Inn, once again hit the musical limelight with their impressive new work, "Rituals". With their music featuring on such celebrated imprints as Balkan Connection, Stripped and Vapour, supported by Hernan Cattaneo, Guy J and James Zabiela, the Australian based pair has continued to grow in stature and reputation throughout 2013 and '14. Full of the "deep" techno and progressive flavours that form the backbone of their sound, "Rituals" is a wonderful journey through strong rhythms and delicately formed vibrato motifs that add subtle dark flavours.

First up on remix duties, Ukrainian, Following Light, is a name familiar to those with a penchant for the underground house sounds of which he has become a prolific exponent. Founding the Inmost label as a vehicle for his own production work as well as a host of others, the Following Light name has been a regular on the likes of BC2, Magic Room and Particles, the latter finding a home for two original EPs in 2013 and '14. Returning to Suffused Music after a remix of Munbraze in September 2014, Following Light takes a typically innovative approach to his interpretation of "Rituals". A strong kick forms a foundation upon which a collage of pitched sounds bend and ripple across a multi-textured bed of pads and metronomic percussion. The resultant work is a celebration of the unique Following Light sound.

There are few modern producers within the electronic dance industry who possess the same credentials as Rick Pier O'Neil. A background working with Sony Music and elite artists such as Stevie Wonder and Donna Summer, success on the US Billboard charts has been a constant companion throughout O'Neil's early career. Turning his attention away from mainstream acts, setting up the RPO imprint saw a shift to a more underground progressive sound that has seen his label's work supported by Carl Cox, Danny Tenaglia and John Digweed. A globally renowned DJ, Rick Pier O'Neil follows on from the 5-track "Shimmer of Lights" EP for Suffused Music in November 2014 with a typically impressive remix of "Rituals". Low slung, sultry rhythms are soon joined by the machine gun fire of hi-hats and rasping bass line to create juxtaposed urgency, while smooth melodies echoing the themes of Progress Inn's original are a welcome addition supplying warmth and texture to a high-calibre work.

Serbian, Vid Marjanovic, is the final artist to lend his skills in remix. An accomplished DJ with a wealth of appearances to his name across his homeland and beyond, his sets alongside Petar Dundov, Alan Fitzpatrick and Tomas Barfod have solidified a strong reputation, capped with standout performances at EXIT Festival and Megacin Depo in front of audiences of thousands. As a producer, Marjanovic's work has graced well-established imprints such as Mirabilis, Lovezone and 3rd Avenue with support coming from Hernan Cattaneo, Soundexile and Guy J. Making his first appearance for Suffused, the Vid Marjanovic remix of "Rituals" is a deep and contemplative progressive offering with strong house beats combined with delicate melodic interplay. Multiple layers of rich texture add further to the overall feeling of reflection as Marjanovic turns in an impressive debut.

A trio of remixes from some fine modern producers has ensured the "Rituals" of success are a continuing theme for Progress Inn.

Daniel Camarillo - Button EP incl. Ryan Sullivan, Robert R. Hardy, Steve Sai [SMD075]

Original:
From the beginning of the track, notes of crispness in the percussion highlight the mood of this progressive creation. Soft notes and synth horns dance playfully amidst the bassline and sharp hats carry the tempo. When the breakdown comes it’s an uplifting melodic experience that will transport you back to the transition years of trance when a harsh speedy genre evolved into the soft rolling progressive sounds of today. Mellow and deep, but still flirty enough to keep an audience interested in it’s next move, “Button” is a show of discipline and maturity in this fresh music creator.

Robert R. Hardy Dark Therapy Remix:
The Robert R. Hardy Dark Therapy Remix does just what it says it will. It shines just enough light through the darkness to keep the listener from getting lost by effectively employing some piercing bright strings. The breakdown is deep and moody, yet still reverbally yearns through notes of the original “Button.” With a 2 minute intro and tons of darkness to go along with the Original’s sound, this remix will sate the appetite of the minimalistic.

Ryan Sullivan Remix:
Ryan Sullivan found a groovy, crunchy bassline and used it to sew on the Button. While still slow paced and somewhat minimalistic, the edgier bassline and harder synth stabs create a more energetic environment. Exactly halfway through this remix the breakdown comes and introduces an entirely different element into this rendition; guitar plucks coupled with howling strings. It lifts the track out of the dark electro ghetto and into cloud city in an interesting and intriguing turn of style. If creativity is what you were craving, the Ryan Sullivan remix is adventurous, daring, and effective.

Steve Sai Remix:
Right at the 30 second mark this remix waves a more techy hand. While still engaging the lonesome tones of the synths, the overall feel of this remix is smoother and happier than the deeper sounds of the others. Some parts of this remix will transport you into realms of Blade Runner and other Vangelis works, and THAT is never a bad thing. Turn to this remix when you need to “Button” a solid progressive track into a versatile tech mix.
