The 215th release on Suffused Music welcomes Clyde Rouge back to the label for his debut EP. The Scottish artist and Chief Rouge label boss has found a unique space in the progressive house landscape. Releases on Beat Boutique and Pro-B Tech Records have been sensational, not to mention his Suffused debut which came in the form of a remix for Dynamic Illusion. Now returning to the Lithuanian imprint Clyde presents his first artist EP for label entitled 'Hybrid'.
Spread across three tracks it's 'Sustain' which gets the EP underway with a grinding, character rich groove. Smooth chord changes immediately evoke an emotional response as airy atmospheres and vibrant motifs envelope the framework. While a touch symphonic the lead synth is full of dulcet hooks, evolving with a sophisticated flair and onwards to a tasteful finale.
The EP’s ethos is then carried perfectly into the title cut ‘Hybrid’, with it’s buzzing low end and gleaming melodic themes. Effervescent stabs add just the right amount of grit, complementing the celestial top end before shifting gears into a purring finale.
The driving, energetic narrative continues with the EP’s closer ‘Trip’. Built on a foundation of warm bass swells and dynamic percussion, it’s tight rhythmic core becomes infectious, building momentum with each successive loop before a short but timely break transitions the piece into a rolling conclusion. The most reflective of three, it rounds out a landmark EP for the up and coming Scottish artist who you’ll no doubt be hearing a lot more about in the future.
