Nick Varon - Forbidden Land EP [SMD203]

Referenced as “the most underrated DJ in the world” by none other than global icon, Nick Warren, Nick Varon is a hugely respected artist within the underground dance arena. Now making his Suffused Music debut, we are delighted to welcome Nick to the label with his “Forbidden Land” EP.

An accomplished musician, proficient in both guitar and piano, Nick Varon’s relationship with music began from early age. Resident at “Club Venue” in Athens for five years, Varon perfected his craft behind the decks with Deep Dish’s Sharam recognising “the flow in his DJ sets touches perfection.” Moreover, Hernan Cattaneo also saw a burgeoning talent in the young artist, taking him on a 50-date world tour across three continents that has seen him play in New York, Tokyo and at the Creamfields festival in Buenos Aries.

In tandem, a celebrated production career is no less impressive. Finding a home on Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music, the “Shibuya EP” in April 2012 sparked an ongoing relationship that saw the three-track “Sky Ladder” EP released in September 2017 and an appearance on Cattaneo’s 2017 “Balance Presents Sudbeat” compilation with the track, “Sivota”. In addition, a raft of original material has found its way onto a plethora of high-profile labels including Lonya’s Asymmetric Recordings and Sonic Union’s Lowbit.

With such blue-chip credentials to his name, it is an honour to welcome Nick Varon to Suffused Music. Opening proceedings, “Over & Out” is full of the trademark rhythmic sensibilities that has made Varon such a sought-after producer. Intricate layers of percussive cadence create a wonderful dance floor groove as a bouncing sub-bass carries the track forward. Building effortlessly a swathe of pads and delicious melodic interplay imperceptibly emerge as a hypnotic riff and analogue lead line commands attention in the third movement against the driving beat.

The title track itself is a glorious marriage of rhythm and melody as a metronomic kick provides the vehicle for a beautiful and shimmering arpeggio to melt into the mid-range. Progressing with ease, a series of counterpoint melodies supply immediate interest in a stripped back, contemplative offering with a percolating rhythm swirling across the stereo spectrum and into listener consciousness. An ever-present, head-shaking groove creates a wonderful dynamism that is certain to find favour with fans and peers alike.

With Nick Varon’s star in the ascendancy he is sure to find success in the “Forbidden Land”.

Erich LH - No Gravity EP [SMD202]

As Suffused Music hits 2018 at full pace and a double century of releases under its belt, we celebrate with a brand new musical vignette through Erich LH and his three-track, “No Gravity” EP.

Hailing from the ancient and historical city of Córdoba in the foothills of the Sierra Chicas, Eric Ledesma has fashioned an impressive career for himself from his home in the north-centre of the country. With his Erich LH pseudonym, the Argentinean artist has consistently impressed, inspired and influenced by familial bonds and the sounds of the 1980s and 90s. Finding a passion within the sphere of electronic music, Ledesma refined his taste to focus on the areas of underground progressive.

An accomplished DJ, beguiling club goers with a compelling blend of sounds from progressive and tech house to techno and deep vibes, Erich LH has found himself performing at a raft of underground events around his home country including, El Castillo, Green Paradise and Bahia Los Mimbres. In tandem, a production career has flourished with a clutch of releases on an array of high-profile imprints. Making his 2010 debut on Distants Records with the “Rain” EP, further original work has followed for OLD SQL, Panda and Deepsessions Recordings.

Now returning to Suffused Music after the debut ‘Space Odyssey” appeared as part of the “Initializing, Vol. 12” compilation, the track now receives a full release of its own accompanied by two further original works. Retaining all the rhythmic flare of its initial release, “Space Odyssey” floats across its eight-minute voyage with its ethereal pads and timeless riff. Driven by thumping kick, hypnotic percussion and vocal sample, the Erich LH production craft and technique is in full flight.

“Cyborg” continues the heavy kick and driving percussion of its predecessor, while a running arpeggio line adds further intensity and dynamism, combined with trademark earworm riff. Pausing at a stripped back breakdown to create a wonderful crystalline sequence that hypnotises and pitches in analogue glory, a third movement joins a collage of rhythm and melodic flow in synchronous harmony.

Final track, “Stars” creates a slightly darker, edgier tone that is apposite for the wide-open infinity that sits alongside the track’s subject matter. Finding a wonderful chord and bass progression at its core, a cluster of free-flowing synth lines and rhythmic stabs create a vital energy that fires post-breakdown with renewed energy as hints of musical tropes to come are presented with shimmering and delayed synth work. The result is a club stormer that is sure to fill dance floors across the globe.

With all the weightless majesty of an artist harnessing the powers within his musical compass, Erich LH has become master of the universe with his “No Gravity” EP.

Dousk - French Sauce feat. eSoreni EP (Suffused Music Edition) incl. Dimuth K, Kymatik [SMD201]

The 201st release on Suffused Music finds the label presenting new interpretations of ‘French Sauce’ feat. eSoreni by the one and only Dousk. The Greek artist shot into the electronic music spotlight with a release on John Digweed’s Bedrock Records in 2004. Subsequent releases on Vapour Recordings and Global Underground soon followed and with that Dousk became one of the most in demand producers in the progressive music landscape. Originally released in July of 2017, ‘French Sauce’ found Dousk collaborating with US vocalist eSoreni for a deep and mystical creation of epic proportions. Having never been remixed Suffused Music now hands the composition over to the capable hands of Dimuth K and Kyamtik.

Dimuth K proved to be one of 2017’s most pleasant surprises. In a year highlighted with an appearance on Max Graham’s ‘Cycles’ 8 compilation and an EP on Movement Recordings, progressive house fans gravitated towards his unique take on the genre. Now returning to Suffused Music for his third appearance, Dimuth takes ‘French Sauce’ into pure progressive house territory. Rippling waves of bass and astral effects set the cosmic journey in motion before serene pads add a reflective tone. Spiralling synths carry into an expansive break, as waves of noise, metallic hits and shimmering motifs coverage for the ultimate dance floor moment.

The second and final interpretation of ‘French Sauce’ is provided by Kymatik who is returning to the label for his fourth appearance. The Berlin based artist made his debut on the Lithuanian imprint in September of 2016 with a remix of 'Can't Explain The Bang' by Andrez. Subsequent releases on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Germany's Afterglow Records have been received amidst much praise, ultimately leading to the ‘Find and Loose’ EP for Suffused Music to close out 2017. Seemingly finding a comfortable home on the label Kymatik now begins 2018 on a strong note with a stunning interpretation of ‘French Sauce’. Deep and meditative from the outset, it’s a free flowing journey through hypnotic arps, trailing clusters and electric stabs. A series of timely breaks shifts the narrative as tension rolls and drama builds, never reaching an overwhelming peak but on a continual pulse to the road home. A stunning interpretation from Kymatik which rounds out a superb remix edition for Dousk’s ‘French Sauce’.

Rick Pier O'Neil - Kan Balam EP incl. A-Jay (SL), GBrown, Chris Gavin [SMD200]

Hitting a hugely impressive 200th release, Suffused Music’s continued longevity in a crowded and competitive industry has seen the label at the epicentre of the underground dance scene. Now revisiting Rick Pier O’Neil’s pulsating bass grooved gem, “Shimmer of Lights”, From late 2014, a pair of brand new remixes take “Kan Balam” on a new and vibrant journey with the original and Chris Gavin remix reprised just for good measure.

First up on the remix trail is Sri Lankan DJ and producer, A-JAY. An artist with a rich musical history and a penchant for the broad church of tech house, A-JAY has spent several years honing his craft and performing in front of crowds in the Colombo capital alongside the likes of Jeremy Olander, Above & Beyond and Jaytech. A regular in the Beatport Tech House charts with his distinctive sound, work for Egothermia, Occultech and Patent Skillz, is now joined by a third outing on Suffused Music after a pair of releases in late 2017. Remixing “Kan Balam”, A-JAY has kept the strong rhythmic and bass foundation of the original while adding a new running bass line and ticking percussive cadence. Building throughout with a series of melodic interludes and filtered arpeggio sequence, A-JAY has created a fresh and innovative rework.

Newcomer to the underground progressive house fraternity, US producer, Gary Brown has created quite a stir with his GBrown contraction alter-ego. Since a debut for Suffused Music in the shape of “This Is Who We Are” for the “Initializing” series in April 2016, GBrown has gone on to feature heavily on the label, not least through the original three-track “Open” EP that went on to spawn a host of remixes over the course of 2017. A remix of Monojoke’s “Paradisum” for Electronic Tree in September was a further notable highlight as GBrown now returns to Suffused Music with a delightful reworking of Rick Pier O’Neil. Building his remix around a subterranean bass groove that fills the lower frequencies, a collage of atmospheric effects reverberates in joyous harmony with rippling melodic sequences that span the stereo spectrum in forward and reverse direction. Reaching a rousing crescendo at the mid-point breakdown, rhythm and bass supply dance floor credentials in the third movement to hypnotic effect.

The final producer to make their mark is French producer, Chris Gavin. With an impressive production career that has spanned a ten-year period, work for Particles, Perspectives Digital and SexOnWax has seen the French producer’s sound supported by the likes of Laurent Garnier, Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. A debut appearance on Suffused Music saw Gavin remix “Kan Balam” in August 2015, as part of the “Shimmer of Lights Part 2” release, reprised here in all its pounding rhythmic glory. A chorus of melodic sequences and counterpoint motifs swirl across the left-right spectrum as Gavin reinvigorates O’Neil’s work in innovative fashion.

Andy Line & Deep Shepherd - Cocaine in Darkness EP incl. Division One, Forest Weed, Nightbob, Pavlin Petrov [SMD199]

The 199th release on Suffused Music finds the label showcasing new interpretations of ‘Cocaine In Darkness’ by Andy Line & Deep Shepherd. Originally released in April of 2016 on the ‘Initializing, Vol. 9’ collection it's sinister moods and distinctive motifs were a standout on the compilation. Now as 2018 begins we see Suffused Music inviting Division One, Forest Weed, Nightbob and Pavlin Petrov to reinvent the track for the new year.

Kicking the release off is Adam Weiss aka Division One who is making his label debut following strong releases on Electronic Tree and Nueva Dark. The Polish artist stays true to the vibe of the original and goes one step further with tough beats, dark electronics and spooky atmospherics. Not without emotive moments, the third act brings on a radiant finale with esoteric melodies and heartfelt chord changes.

The second interpretation of 'Cocaine In Darkness' is provided by Forest Weed who is also making his Suffused Music debut. Rafael Nebel aka Forest Weed hails from Brazil and has been pushing his unique blend of psychedelic progressive since 2014. Now presenting one of the most anticipated remixes of his career Forest takes 'Cocaine In Darkness' into driving peak time territory. Backed by a galloping groove, the framework quickly gets filled in with psychedelic designs and dark electronics. The main theme translates well, particularly during a stunning second act which is sure to captivate your dance floor.

The third interpretation of 'Cocaine In Darkness' is provided by Nightbob who is coming off a great remix for Morninglory Music. The Dutch artist makes his Suffused Music debut in style with an 'Intro' take on the track. Robotized vocals and moody bass swells set the stage as layers of drums build towards the eventual first beat. Electric yet fluid, it's a tripped out journey into synth vortexes and shifting atmospheres with the looping vocal keeping your attention locked.

The fourth and final interpretation finds Pavlin Petrov returning to the label for his second appearance. The Bulgarian artist made his debut on the Lithuanian imprint in February of 2014 with 'Twilight' which he co wrote with sometime studio partner Hypnotic Progressions. Now making a long overdue return Pavlin brings a groovier approach to 'Cocaine In Darkness' with a swing heavy framework, new found vocal motif and mutoid modular storyboard. A superb way to cap off the release which looks set for plenty of play on the darker dance floors out there.

BVSIC - Cassiopeia EP [SMD198]

The 198th release from Suffused Music welcomes BVSIC back to the label for his debut EP. The Polish artist made his debut on the Lithuanian imprint in July of this year with a contribution to the ‘Initializing’ Vol. 13 collection. Now fresh off an EP for Electronic Tree, BVSIC makes his much anticipated return to Suffused Music with a new EP entitled ‘Cassiopeia’.

Spread across three tracks the collection begins with the deep and hypnotic ‘Orion’. It’s punchy beats, buzzing bass stabs and drifting melodic qualities set the tone for the entire release. An effervescent arp tantalizes the senses as the first act gains momentum before cascading tones initiate the melodious storyboard. Coming to fruition during the second of two breaks, airy atmospheres lift the mood higher, gently accenting the tonal theme and ultimately setting up a timeless finale.

Continuing with ‘Voyager’ the EP takes a techier tone with tougher percussion at the outset. Evolving nicely with delicate keys and warm overlays it quickly moves into dulcet territory. Again powered by distinctive bass stabs it’s a groove destined for dance floor success. Hopeful and reflective as the second act begins, the narrative shifts towards astral territory with cosmic effects and waves of sonic dust carrying the journey home.

The release concludes with its title and showcase piece ‘Cassiopeia’. Coming down in tempo with a low slung groove and ethereal voices it’s a delight for the senses. Warm bass swells flow effortlessly through emotive chord changes before the main break takes things further into atmospheric territory. The one minute plus interlude proves to be the EP’s most dramatic yet heartfelt moment. As a waning tones rise, meandering synths swirl resulting in a euphoric vortex and exhilarating conclusion to the EP. A superb collection of music from BVSIC who now sits as someone to watch as 2018 moves closer.

Spacebeat - Winter Phase, Pt. 2 incl. LoQuai, Paul Sawyer, Stark & Sahin [SMD197]

The 197th release on Suffused Music finds the label presenting new interpretations of Spacebeat’s ‘Winter Phase’. Originally released in March of 2015 it showcased the Russian artist at his creative peak. It's deep grooves and enchanting atmospheres proved unforgettable and now two and a half years later it still holds a place in Spacebeat's Beatport Top 10 best sellers. As the year winds to a close Suffused Music now invites LoQuai, Paul Sawyer, Stark & Sahin and Spacebeat himself to reinvent the track for 2017.

First up Spacebeat provides a fresh update on the track with his 'Excursion Across Siberia Mix'. Incredibly detailed, it's atmospheric beginnings lead you on a journey of pulsating bass and devilish tones. Trippy keys and soulful chords adorn the break, creating a surreal vibe before ultimately shifting gears for a purring finale.

The second interpretation of 'Winter Phase' is provided by Loquai who is returning to the label for this 14th appearance. The Russian born, Germany based artist last appeared on the Lithuanian imprint in November of 2016 with a remix of 'Humble' by Subconscious Tales. 2017 has seen Loquai rise to great heights once again, showcasing his music on Balkan Connection, Stellar Fountain and his own Refined Tunes imprint. Always a proficient remixer Loquai takes 'Winter Phase' into his own world of deep, progressive house. Backed by a thick, rolling groove the piece moves through dubby tones and distinct sonic artefacts before breaking down. The centrepiece is highlighted by a delicate melody, further shaping the storyboard before a floaty arp and classy build brings on an exhilarating conclusion.

The third interpretation of 'Winter Phase' is provided by Paul Sawyer who is returning to the label for his third appearance. The UK artist made his debut on the Lithuanian imprint with Simon Sinfield in November of 2015 when the duo contributed their 'I'm Falling' production to the label's 'Initializing' Vol. 7 collection. Now following releases on Green Martian and his own Krafted Music imprint, Paul makes his much anticipated return to Suffused Music with an excellent interpretation of 'Winter Phase'. With a nod to the old school, it's chugging groove and rolling rhythms set the piece in motion. Timely vocal gates and clustered claps adorn the hypnotic framework, building tension as the main break commences. A gaseous atmosphere comes over the centrepiece before getting washed away as trailing sonics and dramatic rolls reignite the groove for a powerful drop.

The fourth and final interpretation of 'Winter Phase' is provided by Stark & Sahin who are making their label debut. This talented duo look set for great things and their rendition of 'Winter Phase' shows what an affinity they have for old school progressive house. Romping basslines, impactful hits and a fiery rhythmic core set the stage for an elephant like lead. Bold and distinctive in equal measure it makes for a dynamic third act finale and ultimately leaves you wondering what is next for this exciting new duo.

Fernando Olaya - Gravity EP [SMD196]

The 196th release on Suffused Music welcomes Fernando Olaya to the label for his debut appearance. Long considered one of Colombia's most talented progressive house artists Fernando has showcased his music on Cid Inc's Replug Records, Manual Music, Movement Recordings and Traum. Now embarking on his first project for Suffused Music, Fernando presents his much anticipated 'Gravity' EP.

Fusing progressive, techno and deeper sounds is something that comes naturally to Fernando and it's given his discography a broad scope. The lead track 'Blooming Era' shows his versatility once again with its strong meditative qualities and linear techno sensibilities. Not lost in the infinite loops is musicality, as a gorgeous complement of chimes layers the pulsating framework with vocal refrains adding their own emotive charm.

The EP's second selection and also its title track 'Gravity' comes in quirky with a playful energy and mountains of funk. Backed by a romping, house inspired groove, it's a bouncy seven minute journey with oriental  motifs and stunning electronics. A spaced out break proves to be the high point with astral modulation and frayed sonics eventually delivering a magical drop.

Coming in as the most progressive minded of the three the release concludes with 'Mon Seir'. It's melancholic moods shift the energy of the EP into an esoteric emotional plane. Dark tones, mystical atmospheres and a buzzing tension run through the production, before a cavernous, cinematic break sends the beats further into the cosmos.

Three stunning productions from Fernando which make for one of his most well rounded and mature releases to date.

Dofamine - Metropoliten EP incl. Altek, Loco-Volver, Pacco & Rudy B [SMD195]

The 195th release on Suffused Music welcomes Dofamine back to the label for a new single. The Russian artist last appeared on the Lithuanian imprint in November of 2015 with a remix of ‘Neptune’ by Alfonso Muchacho. Now following releases on Balkan Connection’s BC2 and Bonzai Progressive Dofamine makes a welcome return to Suffused Music with ‘Metropoliten’ alongside remixes from Altek and Loco-Volver.

Since making the transition from Reflection Soul, Dofamine’s sound has blossomed. His latest production ‘Metropoliten’ goes deep with soulful vocals and warm atmospherics. On a back bone of fuzzed out, rumbling bass runs a cascading motif and stunning effects. Smooth chord changes and wonky modulation make for a quirky yet highly emotive journey that might be the most creative work of Dofamine’s career.

The first interpretation of ‘Metropoliten’ is provided by Altek who is returning to the label for his fourth appearance. The Mexican born, US based artist is fresh off a remix of Ewan Rill’s ‘Celebration’ and also owns production credits on Green Martian and DrizzlyMusic. Always a proficient remixer, Altek puts his own unique twist on 'Metropoliten' taking the track into peak time territory. With the tempo and rhythmic core coming up several notches so too does it's grandiose flair. The main elements have been reprocessed to perfection as vocal phrases and synth overlays continue to lift the vibe higher. Sealing the tracks cosmic appeal is an astral break full of emotive moments capped by a fluid energy bridge and exhilarating finale.

The second interpretation of 'Metropoliten' is provided by Loco-Volver who is making his fifth appearance on the label. The Swiss artist has been quiet this year with just two new productions making his remix here all the more anticipated. Clocking in a ten magical minutes it's a journey into luminous melodies and free flowing grooves. Drawing on trance sensibilities the synth work is gorgeous; smooth, emotive and ever changing, ultimately coming to a climax during an aquatic sounding break.

The third and final interpretation is provided by Pacco & Rudy B who are making their third appearance on the label. The Croatian duo last appeared on the Lithuanian imprint in August of this year with a remix of 'We're Good Together' by Tim Robert. Subsequent releases on A Must Have, Balkan Connection and One Of A Kind have all been sensational keeping their mantra as one of the most talented duos in the progressive underground firmly intact. Here they take ‘Metropoliten’ into emotive territory for one of their most magical remixes of the year. It's liquid-like groove is immediately captivating, swinging softly with immaculate curves before a series of chord changes initiates the main break. The duos emotional touch is perfect once again as shifting tones radiate and a gentle wall of white noise provides an energy bridge to a gorgeous finale. A stunning remix from Pacco & Rudy B which caps off another well rounded release for Suffused Music.

Cryss - Feeling Like a Butterfly EP [SMD194]

The latest release on Suffused Music welcomes Cryss back to the label for his debut EP. The Romanian artist first appeared on the Lithuanian imprint in April of 2016 with a contribution to the label's 'Initializing' Vol.9 collection. Subsequent releases on Bonzai Progressive and Green Martian have earned Cryss a unique spot in the progressive underground. Now making his much anticipated return to Suffused Music Cryss presents a brand new four track EP entitled 'Feeling Like A Butterfly'.

The collection begins with the mood setting piece '1 2 3 4'. Showcased here is the 'Intro' version and it does aptly set the tone for the entire release. Warm, shapely beats, dulcet tones and an array of crafty electronics slowly surround the pulsating groove before vocal elements bend the narrative upwards as the third act nfolds. 'Another Chance' follows with its upbeat, house-inspired vibes and timeless emotive charm. Cascading bass tones effortless carry the foundation as beaming tones and hypnotic atmospheres add charisma and depth.

The warm and groovy 'Feeling Like a Butterfly' marks the halfway point of the EP. Carrying the ethos of the release nicely, it's misty atmopheres, soft beats and ethereal vocals combine for a myriad of magic moments. Stripping down into the main break a wave of bass tones create an energy bridge as smooth chords carry the journey home. The release concludes with energetic 'Hurricane' as pulsating beats, spacey arps and tepid designs bring heart-rending rushes. A fabulous artist showcase from Cryss who is most certainly an artist to keep a close eye on in 2018.

GBrown - Believe by Two Hemispheres EP incl. A-Jay (SL), Bobby Deep, Volkan Erman [SMD193]

The 193rd release on Suffused Music finds the label showcasing new interpretations of GBrown's 'Believe by Two Hemispheres'. Originally released in August of 2016 as part of the 'Open' EP it found the US artist exploring deep atmospheric themes backed by a chugging, floor friendly groove. The track quickly became a standout in his discography and now Suffused Music calls upon A-Jay, Bobby Deep and Volkan Erman to reinterpret the track.

The first interpretation is provided by A-Jay who is making his second appearance on Suffused Music. The Sri Lankan artist is much loved for his unique blend of house, techno and progressive, making him one of his regions most well known talents. Here he brings this approach to 'Believe by Two Hemispheres' taking the track into mystical territory. Tough beats, clanky percussion and rugged rhythms carve out a solid framework as the first act takes shape. A cross-cultural vocal lifts the vibe higher, particularity during an expansive break, ultimately setting up a spiritual finale.

The second interpretation of 'Believe by Two Hemispheres' is provided by Bobby Deep who is returning to the label for his fifth appearance. The Greek artist last appeared on the Lithuanian imprint in January of 2017 with his 'Space Hunter' single. As a 25 year veteran of the progressive house scene Bobby has also appeared on Movement Recordings and Bonzai Records. Well known for his diversity Bobby is adept at crafting everything from deep, late night house to peak time progressive. On his 'Believe by Two Hemispheres' interpretation he opts for the former with a laid back, atmospheric version that sits as one of his career best remixes. The vocal narrative is stunning, reaching your darkest memories and conjuring a mystical vibe in the process, all while the dubby framework pushes forward with an effortless flow.

The third and final interpretation of 'Believe by Two Hemispheres' is provided by Volkan Erman who is making his third appearance on the label. The Turkish born, Italy based artist last appeared on the Lithuanian imprint in January of 2017 with his 'Labyrinth' EP. Now following releases on Stellar Fountain's Astrowave and Massive Harmony Records Volkan returns to Suffused Music for his most anticipated remix production of the year. Closing the release out in style, the Turkish artist brings a dark, sinister vibe to the piece with tough beats, grinding grooves and spooky electronics, all blanketed by an expansive vocal narrative which ultimately seals it's brilliance.

Kymatik - Find and Loose EP [SMD192]

The 192nd release on Suffused Music welcomes Kymatik back to the label for his debut EP. The Berlin based artist made his debut on the Lithuanian imprint in September of 2016 with a remix of 'Can't Explain The Bang' by Andrez. Subsequent releases on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Germany's Afterglow Records have been received amidst much praise. Now making a welcome return to Suffused Music Kymatik presents his first EP for the label entitled 'Find and Loose'.

Since debuting the Kymatik alias, Torsten Fassbender of Wellenrausch fame has found a unique sonic space, one where emotion and groove is at a premium. The lead track 'The Moment I Saw You' showcases that wonderfully with a contoured low end and melancholic motifs. Musically distinct, it's sombre themes and lazy rhythms connect with squelchy stabs and glistening cascades. A timely break adds drama, keeping the classy vibe intact before percussive waves and icy pads lead the track to a heavenly finale.

The companion piece 'When Memories Blur' follows suit with a similarly laid back vibe and sombre narrative. Growling bass tones add depth and character as drifting atmospheres and esoteric electronics delight the senses. A charming lead and impassioned chord changes intersect for several magic moments across the nine minute journey while a well crafted break just adds to the mysterious mood. Two unique and inspired productions from Kymatik, who once again shows that creativity and musicality is at a premium when he steps into the studio.

Evelynka - Lavender Whispers EP incl. DP-6, Dynamic Illusion, Volkan Erman [SMD191]

First appearing on the inspiring “Initializing, Vol. 10” back in July 2017, Evelynka and her brightly coloured “Lavender Whispers”, shone with its rich bass groove and haunting vocal phrasing. Replete with carefully crafted melodic sequences, Suffused Music now returns to the track with a trio of new remixes from Russia, Hungary and Turkey, with Evelynka’s original work standing tall amongst them.

Founded in 2000, the DP-6 project has seen considerable success in the live and production arenas. Also hosts of their own “DP-6 Presents Russian Minds” on Pure FM, Alexy Filin and Vadim Indigo have seen a plethora of tracks hit a host of high-calibre imprints. With over a double-century of those hitting the duo’s DP-6 Records, success has been a constant companion to the DP-6 name. Additional work for System Recordings and Black Hole has ensured their music has been well supported by the global DJ elite. Regulars on Suffused Music since a January 2016 debut, both “Eclipse” and “Twistor Space” have seen a host of remixes on the label. Remixing “Lavender Whispers”, the relaxed, swung groove and deep bass pattern immediately pays homage to the original as a delayed percussive hi-hat ripples from the mid-right. Elements of Evelynka’s vocal are reprised in lingering fashion from the mid-point onwards in a work that evolves delicately across its journey.

Enveloped in music from an early age and influenced by the likes of Jean-Michel Jarre and Kraftwerk, Daniel Gyarmati then went on to perform in local orchestras before discovering the world of electronic music in his teens. Going on to form the Dynamic Illusion moniker, Gyarmati became a strong protagonist of the progressive house and breaks scene. Early work in 2006 saw his music feature on the Retroid’s Morphosis Records as well as Toes in the Sands and Silk Music. Latterly, full-length albums for Welcome Music and Spring Tube then went on to see the ten-track “Inside” feature on Suffused Music in July 2017. A regular on the label since late 2013 with a panoply of original and remix material, the Dynamic Illusion remix is a beautifully warm offering, full of the trademark melodic motifs and driving beat that has been a staple of the Hungarian’s sound. Using a dynamic new bassline and Evelynka’s vocal to anchor the remix to the original, “Lavender Whispers” takes on a new and emotive path with multi-faceted layers of additional production elements.

Turkish producer, Volkan Erman, began his music production journey at the turn of the decade. Mastering his craft within the broad church of progressive house fused with elements of deep and tech house, Erman has garnered over 500 Beatport production credits to his name in a short five-year timespan. Entirely self-taught and honing his skills across his numerous releases in his spare time, Erman’s impressive portfolio has seen him become a resident on such high-profile labels as Balkan Connection and Iconyc. Finding himself allied to Suffused Music in March 2014 with “Expressions”, in collaboration with Hypnotic Progressions, January 2017’s twin-track “Labyrinth” EP was a notable highlight in January 2017. Now remixing Evelynka, the Volkan Erman remix of “Lavender Whispers” takes its own unique path with a raft of additional production material. Watermarked by a distinctive running bass line, the loquacious vocal sits atop as pulsating pads pulsate gently in waves across the stereo spectrum. A new lead line makes its presence felt in the third movement to create a unique new interpretation.

Evelynka sees “Lavender Whispers” take on a distinctive new hue with a trio of new remixes from DP-6, Dynamic Illusion and Volkan Erman.

Abity - Electribe EP [SMD190]

The 190th release on Suffused Music welcomes Abity to the label for their debut EP. The Argentinean duo have been long time favourites of Nick Warren, having their tracks showcased in his sets and also playing at the legendary DJ’s Soundgarden parties. Now following releases on Stellar Fountain and Soundteller Records, Abity step up for their debut EP on Suffused Music entitled 'Electribe'.

Getting underway with 'Fragments', Abity showcase their penchant for deep, emotive sounds. Set over a bed of warm, fluid bass tones the storyboard begins with playful rhythmic themes and airy atmospheres. Vibrant percussion provides momentum as subtle arps and wispy effects tantalize the senses.  Clocking in at a minute in length, the main break drifts further into never land with twinkly melodies and gentle synth swells leading to a gorgeous finale.

Distinct and creative in equal measure, the EP's second selection 'Electribe' is a nine minute journey into the cosmos. It's stripped, punchy framework sets the perfect foundation for an array of astral effects and frayed melodies. Bulbous bass tones add dramatic space before a pulsating second act builds anticipation, setting up an even trippier finale. It's no doubt the showcase piece on the collection and a perfect segue into the closer 'Amazing Flow'. Reflective and quirky, waves of emotion run throughout with a playful, funky groove carrying the impassioned journey. Aquatic design highlights a delightful second act, leaving hopeful feelings and positive vibes as the EP rounds to a close. A superb Suffused Music debut for Abity, further solidifying them as one of Argentina's premier progressive house duos.

Ewan Rill - Celebration EP incl. Mario Puccio, Altek [SMD189]

As prolific as he is talented, Ewan Rill has been making tidal waves in the underground dance arena for a number of years. As he now returns to Suffused Music, “Celebration” marks another landmark moment including a pair of remixes from South America.

A Russian artist of prodigious talent, over 1,200 production credits tell their own story of Ewan Rill’s success in the dance arena. A renowned DJ in his native Siberia as well as the cosmopolitan cities of St. Petersburg and Moscow, Rill has quickly and easily translated his musical craft into the world of production. A 2011 debut for Balkan Connection quickly led to additional releases signed to the likes of Clinique, Stripped Digital and OLD SQL. Moreover, Ewan Rill’s music has been a staple on the Suffused Music imprint with a host of original and remix production credits to his name. Through “Celebration” Rill’s hallmark rhythmic sensibilities are brought fully to the fore as an intricate percussive groove and squelching bassline provide depth and substance. Evolving in silky smooth waves across the eight-minute narrative, delayed melodies coruscate across the mid-range, complementing the chunky groove. With numerous layers of sounds and textures delicately placed across the sonic sphere, “Celebration” is a joy to behold.

A classically trained musician and one of his country’s leading organists, Argentine, Mario Puccio, has an impressive set of musical credentials to his name. Influenced by classic rock acts, Puccio’s sideways step into the world of dance music has seen impressive results. Characterised by the layering of melodies, percussion and harmonies, Puccio’s sound has seen him feature on a host of well-established labels. Thus, Alola Records, SexOnWax and Stellar Fountain have all borne witness to the Mario Puccio sound, supported by such leading lights as Nick Warren, Henry Saiz and Robert Babicz, and charted on several occasions by Hernan Cattaneo on his monthly Resident show. Following up on March 2017’s “Utopia” EP for Suffused Music, the Mario Puccio remix is a deliciously lilting affair that evolves elegantly across its nine-minute path with strong beat and laidback rhythmic cadence. Carefully interpreting Ewan Rill’s melodic structure with stripped back precision and craft, a glorious chord change, provides an added air of intrigue and depth to an impressive work.

Mexican born Altek, is another South American talent. Heavily influenced by rock acts that include Radiohead, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, a move into electronic music in 2005, would ultimately lead to a broad church of musical interests. With cross-genre appeal, Altek began a career behind the decks a year later as he honed his craft into the spheres of techno, deep and progressive house. Plying his trade in Austin, Texas, regular appearances in clubs across his adopted hometown sees mainstays of the underground dance scene flow from his fingertips. Trained in piano and music theory, a growing production portfolio since 2014’s debut for Beatamin Recordings, finds labels including Green Martian, Bonzai Progressive and Four Peas Recordings featuring his work. A pair of 2016 remixes for Suffused Music are now complemented by a third which sees Altek take a carefully constructed path that intelligently pays homage to the themes resonant in Ewan Rill’s original. Layers of additional production material and counterpoint melodies thus meander across the key melodic components of “Celebration”. Building to a rousing crescendo, the Altek remix explodes post-breakdown with purpose and intent.

Hassan Rassmy - Harper EP [SMD188]

The 188th release on Suffused Music welcomes Hassan Rassmy to the label for his debut EP. The Egyptian artist has a long history in progressive music, dating back nearly a decade to his first release from the summer of 2008. Hassan's timeless approach to the genre has seen his music showcased on a variety of well known imprints, most notably Baroque Records and Mistique Music. Now making his much anticipated Suffused Music debut Hassan presents his latest EP entitled 'Harper'.

Beginning with the title and showcase piece 'Harper' we see Hassan exploring deep, sultry grooves and smooth radiant textures. Over a bed of finely tuned beats and rolling bass tones runs a stunning effects storyboard. Astral in design it leads to a strong rhythmic core and poignant centrepiece. Monumentally captivating, the break sends emotive pulses through the air before a wave of hazy atmospheres lifts the journey into a stunning third act finale.

The companion piece 'Go Deeper' serves as an ideal complement with its chunkier sensibility. Aptly titled the piece does go a touch deeper while still retaining amazing atmospheric qualities, not to mention great hooks. Quirky synths make for a lovely rhythmic flow, playing off vibrant chord stabs and ethereal vocals all the way to an exhilarating conclusion. Two gorgeous creations from Hassan making for a superb Suffused Music debut. Highly Recommended.

Munbraze - Peractorum EP incl. Nicholas Van Orton, Stage Van H [SMD187]

A producer whose talent has contributed to the Suffused Music catalogue for some time adds to his run of sublime textures in the form of ‘Peractorum’. Daniel Muntean aka Munbraze knows how to encapsulate the embodiment of what makes progressive house music emotive.

The original mix starts with a lush ambient intro that breaks into a solid 4/4 beat and syncopated synth stabs. Edging on the more laid-back sound of Progressive House, the journey is what this production entails. Squelchy synths grab you in the breakdown, leading into a simple but infectious bassline.

Two remixes compliment this release, the first from Argentinian Nicholas Van Orton who’s added more plucks to the Original taking this interpretation towards a less ambient mood. Stage Van H with his Nostalgia Mix takes his rendition into a brisker path, dropping much of the synth stabs from the original and concentrating on the pace of the track.

The final mix comes in the form of a downtempo version of the original extracting the 4/4 beat and perfect for laid back sets. A perfect last mix within this four track EP.

Jiminy Hop - Thousand Miles Underground EP [SMD186]

Russian producer Jiminy Hop returns to Suffused Music with his latest two track ‘Thousand Miles Underground EP’. Opening with Black Pepper, a track that introduces you to his deep sublime sound and quickly slides into layer upon layer of synths and drums. After thinking the subtle layers have peaked, a driving ride takes the track to another level and into the breakdown.

The breakdown leaves you wanting more of the intro, so when the track drops from a huge snare roll, the cleverly layered synths take hold of your senses for what will fit the peak time of any dancefloor.

Track 2, Thousand Miles Underground is the deeper of the two tracks, lots of reverb on the stabs and smooth transitions between the drums, and synths. The melodic flow of this is second to none. This can only be described as evocative, a play on emotions from start to finish.
