A-Jay - The Revolving EP [SMD221]

The 221st release on Suffused Music welcomes A-Jay back to the label for his debut EP. The Sri Lankan artist last appeared on the Lithuanian imprint in January of this year with a remix of Rick Pier O’Neil’s ‘Kan Balam’. Also owning releases on Proton’s Particles and Balkan Connection’s BC2, A-Jay now returns to Suffused Music for his first EP entitled ‘The Revolving’.

The Sri Lankan artist is much loved for his unique blend of house, techno and progressive, making him one of his regions most well known talents. The lead track ‘Scene of Synthesis’ showcases that wonderfully. Originally released in September of last year as part of the label’s Initializing, Vol. 14 collection it’s rolling, trippy storyboard was in fact the release’s lead piece and nine months later it’s as fresh and vibrant as ever.

‘Smooth Revolve’ once again features a cross pollinated style with it’s minimalistic framework and evolving storyboard. Rhythmically charged from the outset, a buzzing low end creates a massive presence as slabs of bass power forward. Dark stabs, trippy effects and driving percussion push the track into its second act. As the beats fade, tension builds with timely drum fills, before eventually melting down to a low end rumble as the kick drops for a massive moment.

The EP concludes with the tough, driving beats of ‘Circinus’. Anchored by a thick, rolling groove there’s an ominous, anticipatory tone at the outset. Rugged stabs and waves of percussion follow, sending the track into rhythmic nirvana. Not without emotive moments, a playful lead presents itself at the perfect moment, setting up a spaced out break to close the EP out on a high note. Three strong tracks from A-Jay who continues to be one of Sri Lankan’s most talented electronic music exports.

DP-6 - Synesthesia EP incl. Matteo Monero, Ronfoller [SMD220]

The latest release on Suffused Music finds the label showcasing new interpretations of ‘Synesthesia’ by DP-6. Alexey Filin and Vadim Indigo aka DP-6 hail from Russia and originally released the track in May of 2016 as the lead piece on their ‘Synesthesia’ EP. Regarded as one of the duo’s all time best productions, it came on the heels of releases for Baroque Records, Bonzai Records and Vapour Recordings. Now just over two years later Suffused Music invites Matteo Monero and Ronfoller to reinvent the track for 2018.

First up Matteo Monero makes his much anticipated return to Suffused Music following releases on IONO’s new Black imprint and Stellar Fountain. The Italian artist last appeared on Suffused Music in August of 2015, with a contribution to the label’s iconic 100th release. Perhaps long overdue Matteo now finds himself back on the Lithuanian imprint with a superb rendition of ‘Synesthesia’. Long known for his psy-tinged brand of progressive house the Italian artist injects a trippy, fluid energy into the piece that’s nicely dialled for peak time. Mild acid lines converge with clustered claps and trailing vocals for the ultimate psychedelic audio collage. The second and final interpretation of ‘Synesthesia’ is provided by Ronfoller who returns to the label for his second appearance.

Hailing from Azerbaijan, Ronfoller made his Suffused Music debut in April of 2016 with a remix of Springa’s ‘Syllables’. Also owning releases on Soundteller Records and Spring Tube Ronfoller now returns to the Lithuanian imprint with a charming rendition of ‘Synesthesia’. Smooth and enticing from the outset it’s free flowing style is enhanced by an unconventional effects narrative. Charismatic and trippy in equal measure it makes for an unforgettable late night journey which rounds the release out on a strong note. Another excellent remix edition from Suffused Music which brings back ‘Synesthesia’ by DP-6 in style.

Matt G - Bittersweet EP [SMD219]

The latest release on Suffused Music welcomes Matt G back to the label for a brand new EP. Hailing from Buenos Aires, the Argentinean artist last appeared on the Lithuanian imprint in March of this year with a remix of ‘Spook On’ by Vlada D’Shake. Also owning releases on Balkan Connection and Sudam Recordings, Matt now returns to Suffused Music for his debut EP entitled ‘Bittersweet’.

Beginning with ‘Heartbreaker’ you get an immediate sense of Matt’s cross pollinated style. Smooth and rhythmic, a set of luminous chords stabs runs over a tech house style framework as fresh vocal elements and drum fills advance the narrative. Also known as a vocalist, Matt drops one of his own during the break, full of soul and esoteric qualities, it perfectly sets up a pulsating conclusion.

The companion piece ‘Stormy Nights’ boasts an even greater vocal narrative. Once again set against a cavernous groove and club friendly percussive, it’s the free flowing vocal storyboard which adds that unique touch. Rugged stabs and timely chimes provide additional magic before a serene break pushes the emotion higher, into a heartfelt third act finale. Two gorgeous productions from Matt which makes for a hugely successful debut EP on Suffused Music.
