Alfonso Muchacho - Neptune Skies Part2 incl. Andrez, Anton MAKe, Dofamine, Maxi Iborquiza [SMD112]

In its 112th release, Suffused Music heralds the return of the "World's Most Dangerous DJ", a.k.a. Alfonso Muchacho, for the unveiling of Neptune Skies Part 2. Released in March of 2015, the original EP remains at the top of Suffused Music's popular releases. This time around, a monster line up of remixing artists put their own spin on the tracks, sampling a cornucopia of genres from melodic progressive to tech house.

Opening up with the first of the 4 remixes, label newcomer Maxi Iborquiza delivers in a big way with his rendition of "Change Everything". Staying true to the original bass sequence, Maxi seamlessly melds a gloriously retro sounding lower end with a fluttered-beat kick drum, propping up a beautifully rendered melody of dreamy keys and snappy percussion.

Artist and producer Andrez returns to Suffused Music with a driving tech house rework, putting the haunted back in "Haunted Heart" with his signature high octane floor pounding rhythms. This remix features pulsing bass stabs offsetting a perfectly balanced, yet somehow delicate sounding hats and claps that only Andrez could pull of in style, giving the infamous Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde a run for his money.

Remixing the title track, Suffused Music's veteran Dofamine drops a superb deep house bass under miles of atmosphere drawing the listener into a stellar break where glittering worlds of vaguely stringed synthesizers can be glimpsed among luminous, enveloping pads before continuing on through the night riding on a hypnotic beat intermittently accentuated with vocal hits.

Closing out the release, Anton MAKe gives takes the only best from "Nothing Out Here" and gives it all back to the listener in a melodic progressive journey not soon forgotten. Using Anton's notorious pad work as a back drop, the infectious bass line stands front and center surrounded by a full supporting cast of brass, keyed and hammered synths for a truly enjoyable tunes that is a sure to played time and time again.

Dynamic Illusion ft. Kelly Noland - Run Away EP [SMD111]

The 111th release on Suffused Music welcomes Dynamic Illusion back to the label for a brand new EP. Dynamic Illusion hails from Hungary and first appeared on the Lithuanian imprint in December of 2013 with a remix of 'Mars One' by Tabriz & Zuckermann. His discography dates back to 2006 with appearances on Armada Music and Blackhole Recordings being two of the highlights. Daniel now returns to Suffused Music for his long awaited debut EP entitled 'Run Away'.

Dynamic Illusion has long been noted for being equally adept at crafting deep and melodious progressive house as he is chunky breakbeats. His sound has constantly evolved over his now 10 year career and for the EPs first cut we see him throwing back for a classic progressive house style cut. Led by ragged synths and on open air kick there's a discernible tension building in this one. An evolving atmospheric storyboard lifts the groove higher with each successive loop and on to an elating conclusion.

This sets up the appropriately titled 'Massive' with its chunky groove and ethereal vocal elements. The meaty foundation is a delight for your feet as a well crafted vocal narrative unfolds into the main break. Here a blend of ghostly electronics sweeps across the framework and elevates the vocals into angelic territory. A second half of sultry beats keeps the late night vibe intact and carries the track to a classy conclusion.

Next up is 'Siren' which finds Dynamic Illusion travelling into more melodic territory. The Hungarian's warm textures and fluid grooves come to life here with a dulcet intro tailor made for a sunrise moment. As the melodic structures begin to take shape acidic hooks roughen up the groove nicely and momentum builds towards the main break. The interlude strips right down to a gaseous soundscape as more prominent vocals get introduced. Angelic in nature, they lift the emotion to heavenly proportions and carry on, through an exhilarating conclusion of swirling harmonics.

The EP concludes with not only it's title cut but also its full vocal composition featuring the talents of Kelly Noland. 'Run Away' flows with effortless flair through compassionate motifs and sultry vocal styling's. It's sleek, laid back nature is perhaps what's most appealing along with a heavenly break which sets up a gorgeous conclusion of layered vocals and strong musical themes. A brilliant debut EP for Dynamic Illusion on Suffused Music. Don't miss it.

John Cosani - Love Song EP incl. Erich Von Kollar, Pappa Sierra, Tash [SMD110]

No stranger to the music industry, Argentinean, John Cosani has found himself a regular on such celebrated imprints as Liquid Grooves, Balkan Connection and SexOnWax. Now taking a bow for Suffused Music’s 110th release, the DJ with appearances across his homeland at such venues as Bahrein, Caix and Blue Apple, speaks from his heart with “Love Song”. Accompanied by a trio of top notch remixes, Suffused Music is delighted welcome John Cosani to its ranks.

The original mix sees Cosani take “Love Song” on a path a deep chunky rhythms and hi-hat groove that lays the foundations for rich melodic interplay to evolve from muted plucks and textured pads. Reaching a melodic denouement in the breakdown, the third and fourth movements thus see a seething dance floor monster evolve in effortless glory.

Owner of the successful Movement Recordings, Tash has ridden a tidal wave of triumph over fifteen years of DJ performances and production work. His music signed to a plethora of high-calibre imprints, Baroque, Vapour and Lowbit have all played host to the Tash sound with support from the DJ elite including Digweed, Warren and Cattaneo. A regular in Beatport’s progressive house and techno charts, the Greek is another Suffused Music debutant. Weaving his production magic, the Tash “Snareless” remix of “Love Song” uses a clever percussive groove to breathe new life into Cosani’s original. Taking the key melodic elements, his intelligent additional production adds a further layer of polish and veneer through rasping bass line, shifting his interpretation into subtle new directions.

From the mecca of US dance music, Detroit resident, Justin Emery, has seen his Pappa Sierra alter ego begin to merge as a serious name in the underground music industry. Work for The Seed, Change Audio and Lowbit has outlined an impressive set of credentials with a series of original and remix material that saw a successful rework of Dmitry Molosh’s “High” for the latter in April 2015. Now arriving on Suffused Music, the Pappa Sierra remix provides a deep and dark affair that springs to life through ticking percussive urgency. Making full use of Cosani’s original components, Emery has crafted a new direction for “Love Song” through impressive, cavernous bass riff and a strong beats-laden offering with clever spot-effects drenched in reverb and delay.

The final Suffused Music debutant sees Stellar Fountain manager, Erich Von Kollar take up the reins. A man with a keen sense of music knowledge and production prowess, Von Kollar’s syndicated shows across Digitally Imported, Innervisions and Frisky Radio has also seen him produce two “Relations” compilations for Proton Music’s “Compiled & Mixed” series. A production career that has seen the Hungarian with a dozen credits on his own label, alongside work for Soundteller and Balkan Connection, the Erich Von Kollar remix of “Love Song” is anchored around a wonderful bass line that combines intelligent interpretation and emotive response in equal measure. A full-blooded rhythm section keeps the energy high while astute use of Cosani’s original components provides Erich Von Kollar with a remix of skill and precision.

Arthur Minnahmetov - Shaman EP [SMD109]

An artist hewn from the rich seam of talent that is modern Russia, Arthur Minnahmetov, from the Yelabuga in northern Tatarstan has hit a rich vein of production form in a short eighteen-month period. Now that talent is fully realised with the brand new three-track “Shaman” EP on Suffused Music.

First “exposed to electronic music” in the 1990s, the transformation of Russian mass media during that decade saw Minnahmetov’s tastes began to begin crystallise as the first electronic oriented shows began to hit the radio airwaves. Consequently, it was not until 2002 that his musical tastes ultimately distilled into the underground progressive house sound.

Taking the time to learn his craft and understand the fundamentals of production techniques, it was not until 2007 that Minnahmetov first dabbled with his own compositions, ultimately rewarded with a debut release for Balkan Connection family label, BC2, in May 2014. Since then, a host of impressive production work has flowed from the Russian’s fingers with a plethora of original production work for the likes of Dopamine, Nuevadeep and System Recordings. Indeed the Bedrock inspired “Ground Under” EP for Electronic Tree highlighted Minnahmetov’s ‘deeper’ side.

A regular on Suffused Music, the track “Why”, originally part of the “Initializing 2014 Vol. II” compilation, soon saw a full release with a trio of new remixes. “In Your Soul” became a statement of intent with three original works, now followed by a second three-track original EP as Arthur Minnahmetov invokes the spirits through “Shaman”.

Solaris” opens proceedings with a nine-minute journey full of chunky hypnotic rhythms and mature melodic arrangement. Driving forcefully forwards, distant vocal phrases drift in ethereal fashion as textured pads undulate across the left-right spectrum.

“Shaman” hits the ground running with a skipping hi-hat section and strong house beat before pitched vocal phrases give significance to the title itself. A sustained chord throughout provides tension and atmosphere while a delayed riff in the third movement provides dynamic dance floor energy.

The final track sees a return to thick groove-filled rhythms and twisted percussive elements through “Caretta”. A bouncing bass line supplies a counterpoint element that nestles precisely underneath the strong beat, and a collage of effects and simple melodic phrasing throw up a growling, hypnotic, tech house air.

Through his “ShamanArthur Minnahmetov has been able to enter an ethereal world full of rhythmic spirit and vision.

Harmon Ikka - Beneath the Surface EP [SMD108]

The 108th release on Suffused Music welcomes Harmon Ikka back to the label for his debut EP. The Portuguese producer first appeared on the Lithuanian imprint in August of this year with a remix of Audio Noir's 'Paris After Midnight'. Harmon's techno inspired approach to the piece closed the release out strong and here we see him presenting his new three track EP entitled 'Beneath The Surface'.

The release gets under way with the title cut and finds Harmon crafting a tough, groovy number which crosses genres nicely. It's chunky foundation, spacious drums and catchy bass hooks set a wonderful framework for a bevy of unique motifs to work their magic. Spacey designs and airy pads complement the acidic groove while the calculated break is sure to deliver a great dance floor moment. Amazing start to the release.

The EPs second selection 'Circling the Event Horizon' is a more distinctly themed piece with its timeless hypnotic flow. Led by an evolving vortex of synths it takes you deep into electronic space while a barrage of claps and offset keys light up the framework in vibrant fashion. Another well constructed second act peaks anticipation before a smooth rush of beats and rhythms rises the intensity a few notches higher.

The EPs third and final selection 'On the Other Side of the Wormhole' goes deeper with warm grooves, acidic lines and granular designs, all wrapped up in a back room state of mind. A third act of timeless tonal motifs and warbly hooks leave you with a great feeling as the EP comes to a close, and makes you wonder what's on the horizon for Harmon's unique sounds. Another exceptional signing from Suffused Music who have spotted a rising talent here. Don't miss it.
