DP-6 - Twistor Space EP incl. Espen, Audio Mill [SMD171]

The 171st release on Suffused Music welcomes DP-6 back to the label for a brand new single. Alexey Filin and Vadim Indigo hail from Russia and make up the DP-6 production duo. Famed for their releases on Baroque Records, Bonzai Records and Vapour Recordings DP-6 last appeared on Suffused Music with the well received 'Synesthesia' EP. Released in May of last year the EP's second and also final track 'Twistor Space' saw praise from all corners of the underground. Clocking in at 11 minutes, it's laid back cadence combined with charming designs and layers of warm textural bliss made for an expansive and deeply engaging journey. Now just over a year later Suffused Music invites Espen and Audio Mill to reinvent the track for the 2017 summer season.

The first interpretation of 'Twistor Space' is provided by Espen who is making his second appearance on the label. Hailing from Oslo, Norway Espen Gulbrandsen aka Espen has been a fixture of the progressive house underground since 2003. Under various guises and collaborative projects Espen saw his music featured on Armada, Baroque Records, Silk Music and Vapour Recordings. While more recently the Norwegian artist has taken his sound to A Must Have, PHW Elements, Proton's Particles and Michael & Levan and Stiven Rivic's Mistique Music. Now following his 'Odyssey' EP, Espen makes his much anticipated return to Suffused Music with an incredible interpretation of 'Twistor Space'. Expanding on the textural brilliance of the original, Espen brings a tough, chunky, yet infinitely dreamy approach, that's nicely dialled for the dance floor. Swirling atmospheres and dulcet melodies converge for moments of harmonic bliss, before a heavenly break strips the framework back to its meaty club core. Advancing the narrative further, the third act finds gentle accents and indistinct motifs gently lifting the vibe higher for a gorgeous finale.

The second and final interpretation of 'Twistor Space' is provided by Audio Mill who is making his second appearance on the label. Arjan Molenaar aka Audio Mill hails from the Netherlands and has found a home on Baroque Records, MNL and Traum where his fresh take on house and techno has flourished. His Suffused Music debut came in December of last year with the well received 'Verastile' EP. The Dutch artist has been quiet ever since so his remix here is both welcome and much anticipated. Audio Mill's affinity for spacey design and quirky hooks has never been stronger with a bevy of astral electronics and tantalizing melodies. It's a wondrous sound story with creamy effects and a brief but highly emotive break sealing it's brilliance. A lovely interpretation from Audio Mill and a superb remix package from Suffused Music. Don't miss it.

Overloque - Satellite EP [SMD170]

Veteran Russian producer Overloque returns to Suffused with the ‘Satellite’ EP marking the 170th release for the label. Well known for his avant garde approach to techno production, Overloque offers up a lively and melodic array of tunes ranging from pulsating and enveloping tones to deep and introspective selections. Starting off the EP is ‘Healing’, a deep tech laden track with intricate percussion and subtle sonic washes nestled in the background which create a perfect backdrop for Overloque’s interesting synth elements to coalesce with. ‘Healing’ is filled with complex textures that progress wonderfully through the course of the tune and the overarching theme is simply beautiful. Next in line is the title track ‘Satellite’. Overloque explores the realm of melodic techno with an energetic and throbbing foundation that quickly unfolds into gorgeous filtered pads that rise into the initial break while a percolating lead sequence drives the track into full swing.  Tension continues to build into the main breakdown as the meticulously crafted elements begin to synergize, artfully flowing into an unforgettably epic theme.  ‘Satellite’ is stunning overall and will definitely be a favorite in the underground this year. The EP’s third track ‘Lone Traveler’ follows Overloque’s vision for experimentation as elaborate percussive elements and curious electronics create a melancholy soundscape. A wobbly synth line surrounded by glassy pads ebb and flow throughout while a menagerie of captivating sounds enter at key moments, weaving a lavish tapestry of sonic ear candy. Finally, ‘At the Bottom’ features a more organic groove with processed guitar plucks, a picked bassline and swinging hats. The track is deep and funky while maintaining a melodic flavor with its interjecting pads, modulated synths and ethereal stabs.

Subconscious Tales - Till It Begins EP incl. Monojoke, Dimuth K, Tuxedo [SMD169]

The 169th release on Suffused Music welcomes Subconscious Tales back to the label for a brand new single. Latvian producer Ivars Tilix aka Subconscious Tales last appeared on the Lithuanian imprint with his 'Aura' single released in January of this year. Now making his much anticipated return Subconscious Tales presents his latest single 'Till It Begins' alongside remixes from Monojoke, Dimuth K and Tuxedo.

Since debuting the alias in 2014, Ivars has enjoyed much success with Subconscious Tales. His deep and atmospheric sound has remained a favourite amongst progressive house DJs and 'Till It Begins' looks to be his most enchanting creation to date. Build around warm textures and wispy atmospheres you're quickly transported into an otherworldly place. Hypnotic arps and clustered claps fill the framework in nicely before the main break brings further cosmic appeal. Delicate melodies bring heart and soul to centrepiece as sparkling effects add just the right amount of charm. A luminous third act only enhances the records overall beauty with chord changes and muted chimes converging for a magical finale.

Presented over three parts the remixes take the original into wonderful places. Beginning with pure progressive stalwart Monojoke who makes his eighth appearance on the label. Hailing from Poland, Monojoke had a very successful 2016. His partnership with Tuxedo reached new heights, so much so that the duo eventually coined the Fluente alias for the project just prior to their debut on Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music. The Guy J favourite once again brings his groovy, melodic style to 'Till It Begins' with great results. A beefed up groove leads the charge while a wave of cosmic effects begins to take shape. Melodic and emotive in all the right ways, the main break proves grandiose but in perfectly executed fashion. Lofty atmospheres tantalize the senses over it's near two minute duration before the beats do finally drop for one of the track's many magic moments.

Next up Dimuth K returns to the label for his second appearance. The Sri Lankan artist first appeared on Lithuanian imprint in January of 2016 with a contribution to the label's 'Initializing Vol. 8' collection. Now following releases on Balkan Connection, Tuxedo's Electronic Tree and Loquai's Refined Tunes, Dimuth makes his much anticipated return to Suffused Music with a gorgeous rendition of 'Till It Begins'. Again coming from a progressive state of mind, the Sri Lankan artist reworks the groove with funk and drive. It's irresistible swing gets complemented with cosmic elements as the first act progresses, ultimately leading to the main break. As the beats strip down, electronics decay and the astral surroundings become all the more intoxicating. Again coming in at just under two minutes the tracks centrepiece is an experience unto itself with cinematic and emotional overtones taking you home.

The release concludes with Tuxedo returning to the label for his fourth appearance. The Polish artist and Electronic Tree label boss last appeared on the Lithuanian imprint in March of 2016 with a contribution to the label's Suffused Grooves Vol. 3 collection. Although previously released, Tuxedo's take on 'Till It Begins' sounds as fresh as it did nearly two years ago. It's no wonder the Polish artist has gone on to appear on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Hot Since 82's Knee Deep In Sound imprint. Built around a romping groove and choppy rhythmic core It's house oriented style makes it a great addition to the progressive heavy package and closes the release out on a high note. A superb offering from Suffused Music once again. Highly Recommended.

Pacco & Rudy B - Krk EP incl. Lian July, Yuriy From Russia [SMD168]

The 168th release on Suffused Music welcomes Pacco & Rudy B to the label for their debut single. The Croatian duo have enjoyed immense success over the course of their now 10 year production career. Releases on A Must Have, Proton Music and Spring Tube have all been outstanding, earning support from a wide range of top DJs including Hernan Cattaneo. Now making their much anticipated Suffused Music debut Pacco and Rudy present their new single entitled 'Krk' alongside remixes from Lian July and Yuriy From Russia.

The original version gets the release off to a strong start with tough kicks, warm atmospheres and a very funky groove. Delicate pianos and panning effects adorn the framework as the first act begins to take shape. A soulful wail transitions the piece through a short break where a bubbly line drops in to lock the groove down a notch further. The main break brings an evolution in the arp for one of many magic moments and continued progression on through to an epic finale.

The first interpretation of 'Krk' is provided by Lian July who is making her second appearance on Suffused Music. The Israeli artist first appeared on the Lithuanian imprint with her 'Illumina' EP (co-produced with Chris Odium) which was released in November of 2016. Here Lian brings her distinct vision to 'Krk' taking the track into driving, old school territory. It's galloping groove, clattering percussion and emotive chord changes are immediately infectious. An energetic first act is met with a wave of claps, initiating a timely and well constructed break. Rising atmospheres and subtle melodies converge for a magic moment before the driving groove drops back in for a smooth third act conclusion.

The second and final interpretation of 'Krk' is provided by Yuriy From Russia who is making his 14th appearance on the label. The Russian born but now USA based artist last appeared on the Lithuanian imprint with a remix of Bobby Deep's 'Space Hunter' from January of this year. Now fresh off a remix for PHW Elements Yuriy brings his revamped sounds to 'Krk'. With a tech house inspired approach the Russian artist magically weaves kaleidoscopic motifs and haunting melodies into an irresistible cosmic swirl. Burly bass stabs and plucky rhythms keep the focus nicely on the dance floor as warm tones and spacey sweeps push the piece to an exhilarating conclusion. Marvellous remix from Yuriy and another brilliant release from Suffused Music that's not to be missed.

Mario Puccio - Utopia EP [SMD167]

The 167th release on Suffused Music welcomes Mario Puccio back to the label for his debut EP. The Argentinean artist first appeared on the Lithuanian imprint in February of this year with a remix of One Million Toys's 'Sunrise Over Ike'. Now making his second appearance Mario presents his much anticipated three track EP entitled 'Utopia'.

The progressive music hotbed of Argentina has produced some of the genre's most creative talents and Mario has quickly risen to the top of that list. In a 2016 which saw releases on Alola Records, Sound Avenue and Soundteller Records the Argentine received steady support from Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. His distinct musical vision stands out and the lead piece here 'See You Soon Utopia' showcases that wonderfully. It finds Mario exploring voluptuous grooves and quirky melodies, where elements of chance and adventure are at a premium. It's elastic-like foundation and strong rhythmic core sets a great dance floor sensibility but it's the thematics of the piece which are perhaps most compelling. Syncopated lines and sax-like riffs converge for an unconventional and uniquely satisfying musical storyboard.

The EP's second selection and also its title cut 'Utopia' comes in warm, funky and again with a great nose for the dance floor. It's mountainous groove and strong tonal theme carries sizable swing while another unique melodic section captivates both your heart and mind. Soulful lines evolve with an effortless elegance as moments of brightness carry through the main break. A funky drop makes for a groovier third act while radiant atmospheres lift the piece to a tasteful finale.

The release concludes with the aptly titled 'Goodbye Utopia' which finds Mario dropping the tempo for a laid back yet funky close to the EP. It's seaside vibes are undeniable, building across rippling waves of bass and clustered melodies. Tasteful chord changes highlight the apex while an earthy break brings further intrigue, leading to a reflective conclusion which rounds out the piece on a heartfelt note. Three unique and emotionally driven creations from Mario who is certainly an artist to keep a close eye on as 2017 moves forward. Highly Recommended.
